Dear young promising musician,
Without a doubt, chamber music will be one of the most important and rewarding parts of your musical life. Becoming a versatile chamber music player with a large and varied repertoire should be one of your main goals as a musician, regardless if you become a professional musician or continue playing chamber music throughout your life as an amateur player.
There is nothing like the fantastic experience of making beautiful music with your friends.
It’s great fun!
The Advanced Chamber Music Seminar is designed to give you just that!
A lot of knowledge and a lot of fun!
Think back for a moment.
Have you performed any solo or chamber music during this past year?
Did you feel happy and satisfied with every piece you prepared and performed?
Did you feel you delivered your absolute best after every performance?
The next time you play in public, wouldn’t you love to feel absolutely sure that your performance will be exciting and technically solid, and your audience will reward you with thunderous applause..…
Join us for one week this summer and discover for yourself how you can achieve results like these and find out why so many of our former students report to us similar success and return to the Seminar year after year…
“The Advanced Chamber Music Seminar
is a week full of intensive study of chamber music and music business as a whole.
Each day I experienced playing, listening, and performing diverse music
with many great players and teachers.
This week really was a great opportunity to challenge myself,
soak in as much as possible, and completely immerse myself in chamber music—
the most intimate and rewarding medium of musical study.
This week gave me a clear vision for my future, helped me to set goals,
and taught me how to achieve them.
The Seminar’s faculty and all the guest artists
teach and share their knowledge
with mastery and passion.”

IF YOU ARE A COLLEGE STUDENT MAJORING IN MUSIC
Established in 1994, the Advanced Chamber Music Seminar is a renowned summer destination for young musicians devoted exclusively to the intense study of chamber music.
You will spend the entire week learning from highly experienced pros, and you will collaborate with peers who share the same creative interests, musical passions and goals.
Award-winning artists who dedicate their lives to music will take you step-by-step through the process of discovering, analyzing, planning and practicing properly.
They will help you to understand every aspect of the piece at hand so you can achieve a deep emotional and intellectual satisfaction from your own performance.
Under our supervision and tutelage, performing the masterpieces of the world’s greatest composers will allow you to take your understanding of ensemble playing to a completely new level.
Here is just a sample list of the amazing chamber music works our students studied and performed brilliantly in the past decade and a half:
Mendelssohn: Octet, Prokofiev: Overture, Bach: Trio Sonatas, quintets; Beethoven: String Trios,
Quartets and Piano Quintets, Mozart: String Quartets, Piano Quartet, Clarinet Quintet
Saint-Saens: Septet for Trumpet Strings and Piano, Brahms, Quartets and Sextets, Haydn: String Quartets, Glinka: Grand Sextet, Vivaldi: Sonatas and Concertos,
Telemann: Quartets and Quintets, Dvorak: String Quartets and Piano Quartet,
Piazzolla: The Four Seasons, Britten: Gemini Variations,
Schostakovich: String Quartets and Piano Quintet
and many, many more
“I really enjoyed performing with musicians of my age.
I had never experienced being part of a chamber ensemble until my first
Seminar three years ago, but I quickly learned what it takes to be a part of one.
We had to feel similarly about the piece of music or it would not work out.
We had to convince each other how we thought the music should be played
and listen to what each member of the group is saying.
One of the highlights of the week, of course, is the final performance
where all of our work was rewarded with stormy applause
and we all saw where the hours of rehearsals lead to.
I am looking forward to my third Summer with great anticipation!”

Your day will be filled with coaching sessions, master-classes, some individual practice time, special presentations and performances.
The evening Music Business Sessions are open for all, but not mandatory

• This intense week is geared towards advanced string, piano and woodwind players of Pre-College and College age.
• A limited number of advanced horn and trumpet players will be accepted also.
• You will be carefully matched with other musicians of comparable playing level based on your placement audition (live or taped..details are on Application page).
• Live placement auditions will be held at Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 (back stage entrance)
YOU CAN CHOOSE YOUR AUDITION DATE ON THE APPLICATION FORM
• Once the application process is completed, we will create group assignments and send the music to you at least one month in advance. We do it in this way so you can prepare your part perfectly and, from the first rehearsal Monday morning, your group will gel and we can begin to work on musical interpretation and ensemble matters.
• You will be coached daily in chamber music groups of various combination – from trio to octet.
• Every aspect of your individual playing and technique will be addressed on a daily basis and you will receive detailed recommendations from the instructors. We will help you face any musical challenge.
• Throughout the week, you will observe and perform in Master Classes with members of the world-renowned Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and special guest artists.
• Daily presentations, lectures and workshops addressing such important issues as:
o Stage fright
o Orchestral audition process
o Applying and preparing for music competitions
o Effective practice techniques for long-term success in music
o Physical aspect of playing an instrument and how to avoid injuries
o How to plan your school years for maximum results
And much, much more…
We do not discriminate by age, but we do however by your level of playing. This is why you have to go through the audition process. Chamber Music requires equal input from each member of the group and we do our best to match players by their abilities based on audition.
